Farah Starts Season In Edinburgh
Mo Farah will do his first cross country race for four years when he returns to the Great Edinburgh Cross Country in January, for the first time since 2011, before he targets the Birmingham indoor Grand Prix.

Avery Becomes NCAA Champion
Kate Avery dominated the NCAA Cross Country Championships, becoming the first British athlete to win the title for 25 years, since John Nuttall in 1989. The first British champion was Nick Rose, 40 years ago in 1974. She is the first female national champion in Iona history (in any sport). Her time of 19:31 just missed Sally Kipyego’s 2008 course record by three seconds. Kate finished fourth in this summer’s Commonwealth Games 10000 metres.

McFarland Movie Premiere
Thursday saw the premiere of the new Kevin Costner film, McFarland, in Terra Haute, Indiana. It tells the true story of a cross country coach in a small California town, who transforms the athletes into championship contenders. The screening was attended by athletes and coaches preparing for today’s NCAA Cross Country Championships, and included a certain Jim Ryun. The film has it’s official premiere in February.

Avery Wins NCAA Regional
Britain’s Kate Avery led Iona Gaels to the NCAA Northeast Regional Cross Country Championship team and individual titles at Van Cortlandt Park, Bronx, New York. The NCAA Championships are on Saturday in Terra Haute, Indiana. Last year Kate became the first British woman to win a medal in the NCAA Cross Country Championships when she finished third.
