Federer Goes For Historic Eighth Wimbledon Title

Playing in his 25th Grand Slam final, Roger Federer fought like a champion, taking the first two sets to tie-breakers, winning the second. Novak Djokovic just had too much for him, winning his third Wimbledon and ninth Grand Slam 7-6 6-7 6-4 6-3.

Serena Williams takes beat newcomer Garbine Muguruza 6-4 6-4 to go one behind Steffi Graf on the all-time list. Margaret Court is first with 24. Serena now holds all four Grand Slams at the same time, for the second time in her career. Muguruza launched an incredible comeback from 5-1 down in the second set to give the champion a scare, but could not force a third set.

2013 Wimbledon champion Andy Murray took on seven-time champion Roger Federer in a thriller. Federer seemed to turn the clock back to his glory days, as Murray fought all the way, but lost 7-5 7-5 6-4. Some of the points were breathtaking and one game lasted 15 minutes! Most of the experts had picked Murray to win, but Federer was playing some of the best tennis in his career. You always felt like Murray would find a way back into the match and take it to five sets but it wasn’t to be. Federer makes his tenth Wimbledon final at 33!

Williams Wins 19th Grand Slam/Djokovic Gets Record 5th Australian Title

Serena Williams passed Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert on the all-time list with her 19th Grand slam, beating Maria Sharapova 6-3 7-6, her 16th victory in a row over the Russian, a streak going back to 2004.

Novak Djokovic won his fifth Australian Open, a record in the open era, as he passed Andre Agassi and Roger Federer, beating Andy Murray 7-6 6-7 6-3 6-0. Andy led 2-0 in the third set, but let the match slip away as he lost 12 of the next 13 games.

Murray Reaches Fourth Australian Open Final

It’s been a long road back to the top for Andy Murray after winning Wimbledon in 2013. He has had the turmoil of back surgery and a controversial change of coaches. After beating Tomas Berdych 6-7 6-0 6-3 7-5 in the semi-final, he will face either Novak Djokovic or Stan Wawrinka on Sunday.

After failing to reach even the quarter-finals of the Australian, French and Wimbledon, the pressure of making history was showing. Finally Serena Williams had joined that iconic American pair of Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova on 18 Grand Slam titles, equal fourth on the all-time list. She beat Caroline Wozniacki 6-3 6-3 in the final of the US Open. What a place to do it!
