Paavo Nurmi 2000 Metres

Paavo Nurmi’s grandson Mika Nurmi was the starter for the Inaugural Paavo Nurmi 2000 Metres. In a statement he said, ” Our family is delighted with the Paavo Nurmi 2000 metres at the Millrose Games and I am very much looking forward to being the race starter in the arena where my grandfather set the world record.”

This month’s 107th Millrose Games, the oldest indoor track meeting in the world, sees the inaugural Paavo Nurmi 2000 metres. The legendary ‘Flying Finn’ travelled to New York in 1925 for his USA Tour. He set a 2000 metres indoor World record of 5:33.0. Record eight-time Wanamaker Mile champion Bernard Lagat, 39, would love to add this to his incredible record.

The movie ‘Gold,’ about the rivalry between Sebastian Coe and Steve Ovett starts filming in April 2014. It will focus on the 1980 Moscow Olympics.
