Only Mo Farah and Lasse Viren (1972/1976) have done the 5000/10000 metres double twice.

The first American 1500 metres champion was Melvin Sheppard at the 1908 London Olympics, in an Olympic record 4:03.4, beating Britain’s Harold Wilson. Wilson had broken the World record at the British Olympic Trials in 3:59.8, doing the world’s first sub four-minute metric mile.
