Running with a new confidence Laura Muir carried on the tradition set by Coe, Ovett and Cram at Oslo. She beat the Commonwealth Games champion Faith Kipyegon and the World champion Abebe Aragawi, coming so close to her first sub four once again with 4:00.39.

Greg Rutherford is on a roll, defeating American Michael Hartfield in the long jump with 8.25.

Matthew Hudson-Smith took second in the 400 metres with 45.09, as Steven Gardner, 19, from Bahamas, set a PB 44.64.

In the Dream mile Kenya scored a one-two as Asbel Kiprop beat Silas Kiplagat, 3:51.45 to 3:51.72.

Genzebe Dibaba made another attempt on her sister’s 5000 metres World record, but had to do too much of the leading on her own as she got another fast 14:21.
