British Women Stun America And Jamaica



Britain’s 4 x 100 metres relay women beat the Americans and Jamaicans and set a new British record of 42.21. A record that had stood for 34 years has now been broken twice in seven days. There was one change from the team that won European gold as Anyika Onuora came in for Jodie Williams. Asha Philip, Desiree Henry and Ashleigh Nelson were the other record breakers.

In a domestic battle between the European 100 and 200 metres champions, James Dasaolu got the better of Adam Gemili as he finished 3rd in the 100 metres with 10.06, as Gemili got 5th in 10.13. Kemar Bailey-Cole won with 9.96.

The 800 metres saw David Rudisha trying the surprise tactic of coming from back in the field, as he got 3rd in 1:43.96. Ayanleh Souleiman got past him in the last few strides to record 1:43.93, Nijel Amos winning in 1:43.77.

The 5000 metres saw the first three all run 13:07 as Galen Rupp again finished third behind Ndiku and Edris.

There was a dramatic finish to the 1500 metres as America got a one-two, with Jenny Simpson and Shannon Rowbury both falling as they dipped for the tape. Simpson won in 3:59.92 with Rowbury getting second in 3:59.93. Kibiwot took 3rd in 4:00.46.
