Adam Gemili ran a stunning 19.98 200 metres to become European champion in adverse conditions, equalling his PB and beating defending champion Christophe Lemaitre.

You started to think that Martyn Rooney might finish his career without gold after disappointing so often. He got a well deserved 400 metres European title in 44.71, just beating teenager Matthew Hudson-Smith’s shocking silver in a PB 44.75. Only two British teenagers have ever broken 45 seconds. David Grindley and MHS.

Jodie Williams is starting to look like the future of British sprinting as she took  200 metres silver in a PB 22.46, to go second on the all-time British list behind the legendary Kathy Cook’s 22.10 set at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. Dafne Schippers did an historic 100/200 double and recalls the great Fanny Blankers-Koen, the original “Flying Dutchwoman,” who won both sprints in the 1950 Brussels Championships. Bianca Williams finished fourth and Dina Asher-Smith pulled up with a hamstring injury.

Laura Weightman bravely took the lead with 600 to go in the 1500 metres as Hassan took gold from Aregawi, with Laura hanging on for bronze to add to her Commonwealth silver.
