Scotland’s Eilidh Child repeated her 400 metres hurdles silver medal performance from Delhi, as world number one Kaliese Spencer won in 54.10 to Child’s 55.02. In the 200 metres Jodie Williams had a breakthrough performance to win silver and go second on the UK all-time list with 22.50, behind Kathy Cook. Bianca Williams also took a shock bronze in a PB 22.58. Favourite Blessing Okagbare won gold in 22.25. Jazmin Sawyers took a surprise silver in the long jump with 6.56, just missing gold, which went to Ese Brume in 6.56. In the 800 metres the result of the London Olympics was reversed as Nijel Amos beat David Rudisha, still looking for top form. The winning time was 1:45.18 to 1:45.48, as Steve Cram’s Edinburgh 1986 Games record 1:43.22 survives.
