Doha Diamond League

The men’s 1500 metres and the women’s 3000 metres saw a string of PB’s and national records. 2008 Olympic 1500 metres champion Asbel Kiprop ran a world lead and meeting record as he and Silas Kiplagat both ran 3:29, just missing their PB’s. Souleiman and Wote both ran 3:30 to set national records in third and sixth, as nine athletes broke 3:33.
Helen Obiri set a Kenyan and African record in the 3000 metres with 8:20.68 as 10 athletes set PB’s. After a stunning indoor season that saw Tirunesh Dibaba set two world records and become World indoor champion, she led for most of the last 1500 metres, before fading badly on the last lap.
David Rudisha decided not to compete because of a minor calf strain. He plans to return in the Pre Classic.
