Marathon World Record

In 2013 Paula Radcliffe recalled her ‘impossible’ London Marathon World record in an interview with The Guardian. Ten years after the race, Paula Radcliffe’s 2003 marathon time remains unbeaten and an extraordinary achievement. On 13 April 2003, Paula Radcliffe set a World record in the London marathon that was dubbed unbeatable. London’s then race director, and former 10000 metres World record-holder Dave Bedford described her time of 2 hours 15 minutes and 25 seconds as “the greatest distance running performance I have seen in my lifetime. It ranks in my mind with the impact of Bob Beamon’s long jump in 1968.” Beamonesque…and as her physio would describe it, simply like travelling to Mars!”
A decade on and nobody has come within 2 minutes of that time. Paula holds the three fastest marathon times ever and she is eight minutes ahead of second place Mara Yamauchi on the UK all-time list!
